about

I composed, produced and performed this song for a feature-length documentary made by my friends, Oakland-based filmmakers April Abeyta (Director/Producer) and Kim Nunley (Producer).

'After the Game: A 20 Year Look at Three Former Athletes' follows three former athletes over the span of 20 years to unveil the long-term positive impact of competitive athletics.

The film makes its debut at the historic Piedmont Theatre in Oakland, Thursday, March 26.

lyrics

Before I met you I’d been beaten
I felt lower than the ground
Just couldn’t find my way no matter what I tried
I let their limits keep me down

But then you finally made me see
That staying silent wasn’t meant to be

I was a shadow for so long
You came along and took me higher
I finally know where I belong
Above the clouds and so much higher

You pushed me ’til I thought I’d break
You taught me to step up and go the distance
Now what I want is mine to take
I’ll never like the path of least resistance

It’s you that finally made me see
That staying silent isn’t really me

I was a shadow for so long
You came along and took me higher
I finally know where I belong
Above the clouds and so much higher
