Postcards from Paradise (Flesh for Lulu cover)

about

When I was 16, I got hooked on a song called “I Go Crazy” that was part of the soundtrack for the John Hughes film, Some Kind of Wonderful. That band was Flesh for Lulu, who released “Postcards from Paradise” in ‘87.

Some songs just grab you and don’t let go, and this is one I’ve always wanted to cover. I dedicate this one to my sister, Katherine, who turned me on to the Cure in high school—and who was always in the crowd for my live band’s east coast shows back in the ‘90s.

Enjoy. Love live punk-influenced '80s pop rock!

lyrics

Got a postcard from paradise
Delivered by mortal hands
X marks the spot where you lay
Now the sun burns down on the sand

I sat and watched you sleeping
I listened to you breathing
I wondered if you were dreaming, if you were
What were you dreaming?

And I fell under your spell
And I lay where I fell
So wind down your window
Think I think I'm gonna kiss you
I dont know what else to do

You send me
Postcards from paradise
Say I want you
You send me
Postcards from paradise
Yeah, you do

Oh my car broke down in the rain
I just can't get started again
I want you
I want you to stay

A postcard from paradise
Delivered by mortal hands
X marks the spot where you lay
Now the sun burns down on the sand

Well there goes love again
7 day wondering
Out on the ledge again
and you’re, threatening to jump again, who-oh
Here comes temptation
Dragging it out again
I’m riding a bullet train
To your central nervous station

And I fell under your spell
And I lay where I fell
So wind down your window
Think I'm gonna kiss you
I don’t know what else to do

You send me
Postcards from paradise
Say I want you
You send me
Postcards from paradise
Yeah, you do

Like a car broke down in the rain
I just can't get started again
without you
I want you to stay

Postcards from paradise
Say I want you
You send me
Postcards from paradise
Yeah, you do whoa-ohhh

You send me
Postcards from paradise
Hey I want you to send me…
