I think of each of my songs as a time capsule. My eldest son just turned 4 and started school again. My youngest son is almost two. I wrote this song to leave something behind for them—something that would remind them of me and inspire them when they needed it. Mostly it's my way of expressing my love for them, my hope that they always live life to the fullest, and that they'll always retain their sense of joy, innocence, goodness, and positivity—even through life's challenges.
Move ahead, turn around
Feel a smile turning upside down
It's up you, which way you think you wanna take it
Full of joy, all tapped out
It's up to you to either sing or pout
Never know, which way the day is gonna take you
Those days you're gonna feel like cryin’
It’s all between your hope and fear
The sunny days are made for flyin’
The weather’s best from way up here
Here's a song for today
And I hope you always feel this way
They say life is short but I'll be here forever
There’s a way to shine on
to feel the sun just when you think it’s gone
Find that hope inside your heart to carry on
You have tomorrow
In any stream, find your flow
Swim against the current, let it go
Then you'll see, right now's the path of least resistance

I've been a fan of J's since the mid-'90s, when "Become What You Are" became one of my favorite LPs ever. I've since met her in person, seen her play 3x, and featured her in my book, 'Indie Rock 101.' Richard Turgeon
