about

A family friend was talking about how the squirrels were ruining his yard and the various methods he was using to destroy them. His quiet anger and the relish he took in relaying activities was a little unsettling. They're just squirrels, damn.

lyrics

You shot my mother / when she couldn’t even run away
You killed my father / on the very next day
We were a family / that you could’ve just left alone
You have a big yard / that we couldn’t call home

I don't know why you have to hate us so
We build our homes and feed our children / 'til you take 'em away
If only you could be a squirrel
You’d understand it isn’t easy / ‘til your very last days

We fight the foxes / when they sniff around our nests
We hide from humans / when they see as pests
We teach our kittens / to avoid anything with wheels
If you led our life / then you'd know just how it feels

I don't know why you have to hate us so
We build our homes and feed our children / 'til you take 'em away
If only you could be a squirrel
You’d understand it isn’t easy / ‘til your very last days

You shot my mother / when she couldn’t even run away
We have good reason for being here
This is your war... but you’re gonna be the one to pay
