Campfire Songs

Sometimes it’s like we’re stuck in one place Sometimes we’re stuck here with ourselves You have a choice no matter where you are Pick up and move to someone else Don’t let them tell you what you’re thinking Some master plan that you can’t see You’ll find your way before you’ve found yourself d Be who you really want to be Just when you think you’ve found the answers The world will spin around again Open the book and tell your story The pages turn until the end We’re all just fumbling in the darkness Looking for light to guide our way Stay wide awake or you’ll die sleeping Say what you really wanna say…

I feel a yearing I needed somethin’ more Something is calling Walk toward the open door I gotta bring it all to life I’ve got to keep my line of sight To make it real You’re what I want to see When I close my eyes in daylight Everything I want to be Knowing everything is all right I’ll make it real So many choices Signposts along the way No, I’m not dreaming This time it’s here to stay I gotta bring it all to life I’ve got to keep my line of sight To make it real You’re what I want to see When I close my eyes in daylight Everything I want to be Knowing everything is all right I’ll make it real I’ll make it come to life Yeah please believe me This time we’re going for a ride Yeah please don’t fight it Right now I need you by my side Yeah please believe me This time we’re going for a ride You’re what I want to see When I close my eyes in daylight Everything I want to be Knowing everything is all right You’re what I want to see When I close my eyes in daylight Everything I want to be Knowing everything is all right I gotta bring it all to life I’ve got to keep my line of sight

I felt a chill over the weekend I knew that what we were had reached the end The seasons turn and now I’m left alone We made our choice and now we’re on our own Goodbye to you, goodbye to summer My time with you was like no other No matter where I go, I’ll always see you there And when I look, I find you everywhere The leaves have started turning red and gold The fading memories get so hard to hold I can’t forget the way you looked at me This tattered coat is all the warmth I need We never had our chance to say goodbye I don’t have any tears left in my eyes Empty inside and nothin’ left for you It’s time to take a new view Feel something new Goodbye to summer Goodbye to you, goodbye to summer Goodbye to you, goodbye to summer

Belladonna 04:04
I always see you in my darkest dreams Up in the sky or somewhere in between The day I met you seemed to seal my fate Before I wake I hope it’s not too late I’ll take you back but don’t know why You’ll never let me call you mine Belladonna I’ve seen the world with you at my side I’ve seen a brighter future through your eyes There’s no escaping what you’ve done to me And I don’t tomorrow who I’ll be I’ll take you back but don’t know why You’ll never let me call you mine Belladonna Flying too close to the sun We’ll burn our wings and fall as one The golden light will set us free Going down And you’re everything I need I woke up in the ashes of our love And someone called out to me from high above I heard your voice but only saw the stars A million miles can’t keep us apart Belladonna

You don’t pretend to like my clothes You say that’s just how my life just goes You think I’ve always had it rough That’s why it’s never good enough I didn’t learn at fancy schools And in your games, I play the fool With you I feel just like a clown Keep on knockin’ off my crown And it’s never good enough I don’t know why you like to keep me down Keep sayin’ things that spin my head around You’re always lookin’ for a fight Talk of leaving every night Cut me open with your knife And every time it feels so right And It’s never good enough I finally dropped you and felt free So many other girls to see But none are ever quite like you Make me question what I do and they’re never good enough I don’t know why you like to keep me down Keep sayin’ things that spin my head around You’re always lookin’ for a fight Talk of leaving every night Cut me open with your knife And every time it feels so right That’s why it’s never good enough That’s why it’s never good enough That’s why it’s never good enough That’s why it’s never good enough
6.
Oh in time, you will see that you will come back to me Not surprised, that you’re leaving here again “Better days, down the road” That’s what you say when we’re alone But I don’t know if I can follow you back home I’ve always wondered who you are Head in the clouds, eyes on the stars You ask if I can see, I’ve told you that I can Will you wake me when we reach the promised land Will you wake me when we reach the promised land It’s been so long with you gone Different notes but same old song Testing me, and how much more that I can take Pulled apart, I drift away Wondering if I should stay Asking me if I can wait for one more day I’ve always wondered who you are Head in the clouds, eyes on the stars You ask if I can see, I’ve told you that I can Will you wake me when we reach the promised land

about

This new EP is a collection of six songs, plus two bonus tracks only available on Bandcamp. If you like early R.E.M., the Beach Boys, Tom Petty, Juliana Hatfield, and good ol' fashioned indie rock, this one's for you.

It's called "Campfire Songs" after something Steve Perry (Journey) said in an interview about the best songs being the ones you can sing around a campfire with nothing but an acoustic guitar. I wanted to put out a record where all the songs checked that box, to the point where I didn't include a few songs I'd recorded up to this release. It's dedicated to my family, and the release date is my son's birthday, to mark two special occasions.

The record features the tasty bass of my longtime friend and collaborator, Ron Guensche, who now calls Utah home. The last three tracks feature some gorgeous keys and vocals from Oakland-based musician Tommy Carmine that really bring the last three tracks home.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making the record.
