Sea Change

Where I grew up there was no sunshine I had to leave my tiny town I hitched a ride from San Francisco It was the wrong crowd that I found And I’m never leaving California Here forever Don’t say I didn’t warn ya He introduced himself as Charlie We thought he might be Jesus Christ He gave us new names, taught us to let go of ego He made us creep into the night And I’m never leaving California Here forever Don’t say I didn’t warn ya The good in me was washed away by surf and sun I traded my soul for the love of a warm gun I’ve come too far to turn back and I can’t go home Dear mother you can’t save me You’ll find out what he made me We’ve gone too far to turn around And you can only wonder how And I’m never leaving California Here forever Don’t say I didn’t warn ya And I’m never leaving No I’m never leaving No we’re never leaving leaving California Music & lyrics by Richard Turgeon, (c) 2020, all rights reserved

Woke up this morning, the sky was fallin’ Sometimes it feels like it’s karma callin' A feeling in the air that we just can’t breathe We’re all stuck together and we can’t leave I’m keeping tabs on the situation This hasn’t been the ideal staycation I’m disconnected but that won’t kill me The toughest part is I feel so lonely We made a mess of things, but we’ll never know why You keep it coming, but were still not ready to die Poison the water, and poison the air Tell me it’s normal, I don’t really care We never learn from the past ’til it’s finally too late We said we’d listen to reason, but now we can’t wait I’m keeping tabs on the situation This hasn’t been the ideal staycation I’m disconnected but that won’t kill me The toughest part is I feel so lonely We made a mess of things, but we’ll never know why You keep it coming, but we’re still not ready to die We reached the point of no return and we may never know why We never know what tomorrow brings We’ll never learn how to fly And even after the sorrow Long after all the pain… I have a feeling that we’ll still be here That brighter days are getting nearer We did our best, but we’re still not ready to die I’m keeping tabs on the situation This hasn’t been the ideal staycation I’m disconnected but that won’t kill me The toughest part is I feel so lonely We made a mess of things, but we’ll never know why You keep it coming, but we’re still not ready to die We’re not ready to die We’re not ready to die We’re still not ready to die I’m not ready to die Music & lyrics (c) 2020 Richard Turgeon, all rights reserved.

We never asked for your opinion We’re tired of hearing you know best Your had your time and look what happened Just look around, you made this mess You’re on the air, but we don’t listen A talking head we’re tuning out This time we see right through you You’re nothing new We’re starting a summer revolution Ready to cast you all aside Writing a brand new constitution Marching these streets all through the night Don’t look behind you ‘cause we’ll be there Don’t seem to get what it’s about It’s finally time to step down from your throne Don’t talk ‘cause we will drown you out You’re on the air, but we don’t listen A talking head we’re tuning out This time we see right through you Yeah we know just what you’re up to No one’s buying what you’re selling It’s nothing new We’re starting a summer revolution Ready to cast you all aside Writing a brand new constitution Marching these streets all through the night Summer revolution Summer revolution Let’s start a revolution Summer revolution

Car Crash 03:48
I see you walk around alone She's that girl without a home She fills it up with love and fear She'll always find a home in here All the parts are cast This role could be her last I'll wait while you're backstage And hope that you don't change I'll say goodbye that day Falling down and falling fast I think about how long you'll last You've never known just who you are Your cuts on me are leaving scars All the parts are cast This role could be her last I'll wait while you're backstage And hope that you don't change I'll say goodbye that day With second highs and desperate lows You're telling me more than you know Stuck with your insanity If you go down, it might be with me All the parts are cast This role could be her last I'll wait while you're backstage And hope that you don't change
5.
You’re on the ground but six feet under It’s been so long since you were walking free and clear They held you down and made you wonder Deep down you know your home is anywhere but here You took your seat before they boxed you in Today’s the day you heed the call It’s time to break away and run again The morning light will guide you on the open road And you’ll remember who you are The desert sky will burn the shadows from your past To find your place among the stars You played it safe but you weren’t in the game Your comfort zone just kept you in a cage You know there’s something better out there It’s never-ending and it’s time to turn the page Today you’re running for your life

Higher 03:33
Before I met you I’d been beaten I felt lower than the ground Just couldn’t find my way no matter what I tried I let their limits keep me down But then you finally made me see That staying silent wasn’t meant to be I was a shadow for so long You came along and took me higher I finally know where I belong Above the clouds and so much higher You pushed me ’til I thought I’d break You taught me to step up and go the distance Now what I want is mine to take I’ll never like the path of least resistance It’s you that finally made me see That staying silent isn’t really me I was a shadow for so long You came along and took me higher I finally know where I belong Above the clouds and so much higher Lyrics & music by Richard Turgeon (c) 2020 all rights reserved.

Sunset 04:34
I did the best with time I had Got no regrets, not leaving mad But still I know the end is near It makes me want to push so hard Think how I’m playing my next card Before it doesn’t mean a thing I’ll miss the beauty of these skies I’ll miss the love that’s in your eyes I know that all we had would never last That’s why we can’t live in the past Sunset, sunset I feel the darkness falling Sunset, sunset I hear your voice is calling me back to this world but I see light that I must follow I must follow There’s still so much I haven’t done I played the game but haven’t won But still I try to make my mark I could have lived so many lives Found inner peace with better sight I swear I did the best I could I’ll miss the beauty of these skies I’ll miss the love that’s in your eyes I know that all we had would never last That’s why we can’t live in the past I hear your voice is calling But I see a light that I must follow
9.
Skid Row 03:47
I never meant to let you down I felt a heartbeat when you let me in Another drink and nearly drowned I’m sinking lower than I’ve ever been Now no one hears me calling Out here I’m finally all alone And you can’t see me falling I’ll live to fight another day These streets have now become my home I have to stay up watching through the night No one to tell me where I’ll roam I hear your voices in the morning light Now no one hears me calling Out here I’m finally all alone And you can’t see me falling I’ll live to fight another day I lost track of how I came to end up here Underneath the grime it’s not what it appears You’ve moved on but I am hoping to return It’s not too late to share the lessons that I’ve learned I got so tired of trying I feel my future dying I’ll live to fight another day
10.
The Journey 04:37
We lie here in the darkness Something out there calls your name Beyond the shadows there’s a whisper And we’ll never be the same Take one last look in the mirror The surface cracks will heal in time Traveling far will bring you nearer To the bonds that make you mine You will start the journey, to a private place, on this cold night I can’t follow you, down the winding trails, under the moonlight You will have to look, deep within yourself, wherever you roam I’ll be there with you, every step you take, before you come home It’s finally time to face the future And fight the demons in your past I’ll be beside you in the present I’ll be the guiding light that lasts I can feel the thorns, tearing at your body, through your memories I will pull you up, help you find your way, until you find peace Music & lyrics by Richard Turgeon, (c) 2020 Richard Turgeon, all rights reserved

about

'Sea Change' is my most recent LP on Kool Kat Records, exploring themes of transformation and evolution ranging from external forces like COVID ("Still Not Ready to Die") and recent social and political upheaval ("Summer Revolution") to stories of a much more personal nature—including addiction ("The Journey," "Skid Row"), entering adulthood ("Joelene"), facing one's mortality ("Sunset"), overcoming self-imposed limitations ("Higher"), and losing one's soul to Charles Manson's infamous "Family" ("Never Leaving California"). Several of these songs have been remastered since their original release on Bandcamp as singles, and features a previously unreleased single, "Skid Row." The 11th song on the record, "Cull the Herd," will only be available on the Kool Kat Records "Sea Change" CD for the foreseeable future.

If you like what you hear, please buy the record, and share the Bandcamp links on social media. The best way to keep up with what I'm up to is to follow me here on Bandcamp, sign up for my email list on my website, www.richardturgeon.com, and follow my fan page on Facebook (facebook.com/rturgeonfans).
